Early Streamer Emission (ESE) air terminals, also known as active lightning rods, These air terminals proactively manage lightning strikes, offering protection compared to traditional passive lightning rods.
Traditional lightning rods act as a target, attracting the lightning strike and channelling it safely to the ground. However, the exact point of impact can be unpredictable, potentially causing damage.
ESE air terminals take a more proactive approach. They emit a continuous upward leader, essentially an electrical streamer, that anticipates the downward leader. This “early streamer” intercepts the lightning strike at a higher point, guiding it safely to the ground through a controlled path.
